Job details
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work setting: Various locations. Tasks: Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Mountain driving expertise. Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations. Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy. Load and unload goods. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Perform brake adjustments. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Perform preventive maintenance. Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Plan for required documentation and for pre- and post-distribution of documentation (itineraries, evaluations etc.). Maintain log books that detail all repairs and checks performed. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Air Brake (Z) Endorsement. Driver's License (Class 1 or A). Type of trucking and equipment: Extended length tractor-trailer combination. Tractor-trailer. Transportation/travel experience: International. Long-haul. Provincial/territorial. Security and safety: Basic security clearance. Criminal record check. Driving record check (abstract). Drug test. Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel cross-border. Willing to travel for extended periods. Willing to travel overnight. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Physically demanding. Weight handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs). Personal suitability: Team player.
