Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Respiratory therapy. Tasks: Coordinate patient care. Evaluate patient care and progress. Examine patients to assess general physical condition. Implement an interdisciplinary plan of care. Interpret medical test results . Order medical diagnostic or clinical tests. Participate in home care programs for chronic respiratory patients. Perform Holter/loop event scanning to produce an interpreted report for the physician. Perform diagnostic tests. Plan patient care. Train technicians, assistants, students or interns. Operate and monitor respiratory equipment to administer treatments. Advise patients on drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs. Ensure infection control. Operate, monitor, maintain, calibrate and test equipment. Advise patients on health care. Examine patients and take their medical histories and consult with physicians and other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health. Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures. Determine patients' blood characteristics. Provide information and care for patients during tests. Manage home care cases. Suggest home care instructions and provide information about techniques. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Certificate of Registry from the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists - R.R.T.. Respiratory therapist specialization: Critical care.
