Competition #24-32<p>Kaska Cultural and Language Assistant - Denetia School<p><p><p>Denetia School is now accepting applications for the position of Kaska Language and Cultural Assistant effective immediately. This is a continuing position and is for 6 hours per week. The rate of pay is $36.16 per hour. Terms and conditions of employment are governed by C.U.P.E. (local 3234) collective agreement. <p>The Kaska Language and Cultural Assistant will:<p><p> Provide academic guidance, assistance, and direction to Indigenous students as needed.<p> Liaise between home, school, and parent/guardian through visitations and consultations.<p> Monitor student academic and social development as well as attendance.<p> Provide tutoring and classroom support as needed.<p> Assist teaching staff with assessing progress, planning interventions, enrichment, etc.<p> Promote awareness, comprehension, and fluency of an Indigenous language and culture.<p> Integrate Indigenous cultural actives and Indigenous language instruction.<p> Assist teachers in developing, preparing, presenting, and integrating Indigenous language/cultural activities into a regular curriculum.<p> Develop, prepare, and present appropriate materials in Indigenous language classes.<p> Organize and participate in cultural activities on the land.<p> Increase sense of belonging, identity, and self-esteem in a caring and inclusive environment for all Indigenous learners.<p> Improve the physical well-being of Indigenous learners.<p> Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information seen or heard.<p> Maintain familiarity with Workers Compensation Board (WCB) safety procedures.<p> Provide a positive role model for all students.<p> Maintain flexible hours, if needed, to run before and after school programs to meet the goals of this program.<p><p>Qualifications:<p><p> Secondary school graduation preferred, supplemented by training in language education.<p> Valid class 5 BC Drivers License<p> Fluency in local Indigenous language(s).<p> Knowledgeable about local Indigenous heritage and culture.<p> Ability to work effectively in diverse classroom settings.<p> Previous related experience in working with students in a language or transitional ESL setting is preferred.<p> Working cooperatively with the school and the community in order to ensure a common direction as outlined in the Indigenous Enhancement Agreement.<p> May be required to perform other duties as assigned.<p><p><p>Applicants must be prepared to undergo a criminal record check.<p>For additional information, contact Mr. Graham Muncaster, Vice Principal, at (250) 779-3381 or Graham.Muncaster@sd87.bc.ca.<p>Applications containing details of education, experience, and references should be submitted to:<p>Graham.Muncaster@sd87.bc.ca<p>Application Deadline: Open Until Filled <p>We thank all applicants for their interest, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.<p>Note: Applications made through Make A Future may not be seen, use the contact info above.
