_*POSITION SUMMARY *_
We are Community Action Initiative (CAI), a nonprofit transforming mental health and substance use (MHSU) support across B.C. As connectors between grassroots organizations and government, we nurture community-led efforts, aligning local needs with provincial objectives. Through capacity building and trust-based granting, we ensure local wisdom and lived experiences shape MHSU programming. We believe lasting change starts with listening to communities, fostering a more community-centred approach to MHSU support.
We are looking for a Director, Engagement to support engagement and capacity building in the sector. The successful candidate will lead the communications and engagement functions in the organization, coordinate external evaluations and work alongside communities to ensure CAI?s work is guided by the local community knowledge.
_*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES *_
* Leads sector engagement and consultation, in part through the annual CAI sector survey.
* Oversees CAI?s brand identity and builds awareness of the organization?s vision, values, and principles, internally and externally.
* Supports the preparation of user-friendly reports, fact sheets, briefing notes, presentations, and website content.
* Lead the Initiative in the translation of evidence into publications that are outwardly focused, stakeholder relevant and engaging, and develop communications and engagement strategies.
* Conduct research and analysis to respond to specific internal and external data needs, including literature reviews, policy analysis and knowledge exchange initiatives.
* Provide advice and direction for various aspects of the consultation and engagement processes, as well as evaluations of various granting streams.
* Works alongside the ED, Grant and Project Managers to coordinate events across the Province.
* Gives presentations and attends meetings on behalf of the CAI.
* Co-develops comprehensive social media plans tailored to each platform to promote CAI initiatives, events, and campaigns, enhancing brand visibility.
* Develops and maintains relationships with CAI partners, external stakeholders and grant recipients.
* Supports active participation by impacted groups to inform government decisions on complex public policy issues, such as the development of government?s legislation, frameworks, policies and procedures.
* Builds relationships with under-served communities to seek equitable participation, co-develop programming and remove barriers to participation.
* Supports the oversight of the development, tracking, and analysis of the various program budgets.
* Mentors and conducts annual performance plans for direct reports? this includes establishing performance goals and supporting professional development.
* Contributes to the development of the tactically-driven strategic plan, and engages as needed with the Board of Directors.
* Manages the work of project staff and contractors to ensure high-quality deliverables, such as research, analysis, report writing, public communications planning and execution, stakeholder mapping, process design, facilitation and event logistics.
* Serve as the designated backup to the Executive Director, stepping in to manage key responsibilities when required.
* Other duties as determined by the Executive Director.
_*QUALIFICATIONS *_
* Master?s degree in Public Administration, Public Health, Health Sciences, Public Policy, Community Development, Communications, Community Engagement or a related field.
* Substantial experience (7+ years) of recent, related experience conducting community engagement, research, evaluating programs and/or administering grants or managing community programs.
* Substantial leadership experience (5+ years) in an organization of comparable complexity or size, managing a team of multi-disciplinary direct reports.
* Knowledge and/or experience with mental health and/or substance use topics and services in British Columbia.
