JOB PURPOSETo provide nursing care to patients under the direction and in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from an approved school for Licensed Practical Nurses.Must be currently registered with the N.B. Association of Licensed Practical Nurses.Geriatric focused.Experience with geriatrics, Alzheimer's and other types of dementia patients.Willing to complete any relevant advanced competency education or training.May be required to float throughout other Health and Aging Units within St. Josephs.Ability to function within the recognized scope of practice for LPN.Ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.Demonstrates initiative, good judgement and the ability to set priorities.Demonstrates effective communication skills.High regard for confidentiality.Relevant work experience as Licensed Practical Nurses within the past five years.Ability to attend work on a regular basis.Ability to perform the duties of the position.Good work record.KEY RESPONSIBILITES Possesses the specialized nursing knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care and to supervise and instruct other in the care of geriatric patients.Aids in the development of and continuously evaluates effectiveness of individual nursing care plansCompetency in nursing care of patient requiring: Medication managementAssist with ADLsDressing changesDiabetes managementRecreational ActivitiesStrong clinical assessment skills for geriatric patientsActs as a patient advocate, promoting an environment conducive to open communication and professionalismMaintains knowledge of treatments, equipment and supplies pertinent to the serviceEnd of life careGeriatric education as required COMPETENCIESDemonstrates effective communication skills.Demonstrates initiative, good judgement and the ability to set priorities.Ability to follow verbal and written instruction without constant supervision.Decision making skillsTeamwork and collaborationPatient/Client focusInterested?
