Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Automotive engineering technology/technician. Work setting: Repair and maintenance services. Level of expertise: Technician. Maintenance and repair. Tasks: Discuss work with supervisor. Inspect and test mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions. Inspect mechanical units to locate faults and malfunctions. Inspect motor in operation. Review work orders . Road test motor vehicles . Test automotive systems and components. Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems. Repair or replace mechanical units or components. Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications. Estimate parts and labour cost to perform vehicle maintenance and repairs . Perform scheduled maintenance service. Test and adjust units to specifications. Complete reports to record problems and work performed. Repair and adjust system components. Perform preventive maintenance. Perform on-site servicing and repair. Conduct preventive maintenance programs. Assist in routine maintenance and repair of equipment. Assist in operation, repair and maintenance. Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders. Conduct preventive maintenance programs and keep maintenance records. Repair and maintain electrical and electronic controls for propulsion and braking systems. Test drive vehicles for proper handling.
