Job details
Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Work setting: Room and board provided. Tasks: Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques. Mountain driving expertise. Professionalism in customer service. Arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations. Load and unload goods. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Receive and relay information to central dispatch. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo. Transport and handle dangerous goods. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Commercial Vehicle Operator's Registration (CVOR) Certificate. Driver's License (Class 1 or A). Extended Trailer Combination Permit or Endorsement. Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports. Dangerous goods occurrence reports. Driver logbook. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Maintenance and repair reports. Trans-border documentation. Trip reports. Type of trucking and equipment: Liquid bulk. Communication systems experience: Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment. Transportation/travel experience: Local. Provincial/territorial. Security and safety: Valid passport. Criminal record check. Driver's validity licence check. Drug test. Medical exam. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Willing to travel overnight. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Handling heavy loads. Sitting. Weight handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Cellular phone. Steel-toed safety boots. Gloves. Personal suitability: Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent written communication.
