Veterinary Technician or Experienced Veterinary Assistant Area: General Practice, Team Medicine Location: Ottawa, ON Job Class: Full Time *Schedule: * we have a great schedule as our general practice area closes at 7pm! Contact us to learn more about the schedule. *Role:* Working directly with our general practice veterinarians in all aspects relating to patient care. The role will work primarily in the exam room with the veterinarian to acquire detailed medical history and educate clients on various preventative diseases, routine care and dietary options. Additionally, you will organize the flow of the day, respond to client inquiries, and keep track of pending and completed laboratory tests orchestrated by the Team Medicine Technician. You will also conduct follow-up phone calls to assess a patient?s recovery from surgery, illness, dietary changes, or medication tolerances - providing a caring service to ensure all is well at home. *General Responsibilities: * * Communicate with clients in a caring and confident manner * Create and present estimates to clients * Help maintain the flow of the doctor's schedules/appointments and adjust when required * Create treatment sheets on iPads for doctors to finalize * Restrain patients for examination or procedures * Fill prescriptions to go home with clients * Send and receive phone calls and emails * Manage daily tasks (lab & radiology reports, filing, callbacks/updates, enter charges, obtaining records, etc.) * Ensure patients are clean, comfortable and cared for * Clean and maintain the exam rooms, overall treatment floor and hospital *Qualifications:* * Veterinary Technician college diploma OR an experienced Veterinary Assistant from a general practice; hospital or clinic with a minimum of 2 years direct work experience. * Demonstrated calm and confident demeanor to adapt to our environment that is dealing with pet parent emotions and their amazing pets * Proficient in reading and analyzing laboratory samples including ear swabs, skin scrapings, and basic fine needle aspirate cytology. * *?*Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving within a team environment * Ability to multitask and prioritize cases and daily duties within your team * Must maintain professional ethics and confidentiality. * Adhere to excellent time management skills * Assist in the Treatment area or at the Client Service Desk to support the team during vacations and peak times throughout the day or week as required. * Fluently bilingual in French an asset *Physical requirement:* * Able to support patients up to 50kg and lift up to 25kg. * Ability to sit and stand for periods of time *What VCA Canada Offers* Join our team and you will make a huge difference in the lives of pets and their families!
