The Director of Finance at Copernicus Lodge is a key strategic and operational leader, responsible for ensuring the organization?s financial sustainability and supporting its mission-driven growth. This role combines financial management, strategic planning, and operational leadership. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting to the CEO, you will shape the financial direction, enhance operational efficiencies, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. This position has significant responsibility for financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit processes, risk management, and financial planning. The Director of Finance is responsible for all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, budgeting and controls; and government reporting and compliance in a highly regulated sector. This is a role with five direct reports. The role is focused on preparing financial and management reports and analysis; leading the operating budget and capital planning process, preparing and presenting for review and approval to the Board's Finance & Audit Committee; and assisting In performing accounting functions such as journal entries and account reconciliations as required. This position is an integral part of a small executive team that supports directly and indirectly the ongoing 24/7 operations of the entire organization. The incumbent is expected to lead and demonstrate the values of the organization. *Key Responsibilities:* * *Strategic Financial Leadership:* Provide financial insights and strategic direction to the Senior Leadership Team, supporting informed decision-making and organizational growth. * *Financial Planning & Analysis:* Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process, providing analyses that drive efficiency and align financial resources with strategic priorities. * *Financial Reporting:* Oversee the preparation and presentation of timely, accurate financial reports to senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and other stakeholders (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Long Term Care, Ontario Health), ensuring transparency and adherence to non-profit accounting standards. * *Regulatory Compliance:* Ensure all financial activities comply with CRA requirements, not-for-profit accounting standards, Ministry of Long-Term Care and Ministry of Health Requirements as per Ontario Health Accountability Agreements (LSAA, MSSA). * *Operations Management:* Oversee all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, general ledger management, cash flow, and banking relationships. * *Audit Preparation & Oversight:* Manage the annual audit process, including coordination with external auditors and preparation of required documentation. * *Grant & Subsidy Management:* Research, prepare, and submit grant applications and other funding requests. Manage financial compliance for government and other grants. * *Investment Administration:* Oversee the administration of Copernicus Lodge?s investments in alignment with Board-approved policies. * *Real Estate Financial Management:* Provide financial oversight related to property operations, including capital expenditures, mortgage agreements, and other real estate financial matters. * *Team Leadership:* Mentor and support the finance team, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture. *Qualifications and Attributes:* * Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or Business Management, or a related field * CPA designation is required, along with a bachelor?s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. * In-depth knowledge of GAAP and IFRS standards; not-for-profit or healthcare sector experience is highly desirable. * A minimum of 6?10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3?4 years in a management role. * Technical proficiency with advanced Excel skills and experience in accounting software (GP Dynamics and Dayforce HCM experience preferred). * Experience in the Long-Term Care, Community Services for Seniors?
