*Job Summary**: *
Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is an important member of the finance team. The finance team provides accounting services to the Stoney First Nation programs as well as the three Nations that make up Stoney Nakoda Nation. The incumbent will supervise a team as well as the accounting operation as they pertain to the Nations expenditures.
*Core Duties and Responsibilities *
· Ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness of accounting functions
· Reconciliation of revenue and expense accounts for multiple companies
· Preparation and analysis of various management reports
· Identifies trends by analyzing financial results and monitoring variances
· Assist in developing accounting policies and procedures, with a focus on internal controls
· Cross training in all accounting departments to ensure adequate coverage of office positions
· Leadership and performance management skills

*Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities**:*
*Accounts Payable*
· Ensure that all payments are processed in an accurate, efficient and timely manner in accordance with policies and procedures
· Monitor & support staff in managing cheque runs/sending EFT payment files
* Assist staff in maintaining vendors? master files & Signing Authority Records
· Manage internal and external liaison billing
· Reconcile and perform variance analysis for all account payable statements and related issues
*General Ledger/Reporting*
· Monitor budget vs actual performance on an ongoing basis and process transfers daily
· Assist in preparation of annual budget input for various programs
· Assist in audit & other financial report preparation
· Maintain proper financial and accounting internal controls
· Maintain interest, amortization, mortgage, fixed asset continuity, and depreciation schedules
*Co-ordinate with Programs? Accountants & Treasury Manager in*
· Weekly review of bank accounts and variance analysis
· Monitor Funding Agreements versus funding received
· Reconcile intercompany accounts monthly
· Identify and investigate areas of improvement within the department
· Perform Ad-hoc duties as required
*Staff Supervision*
· Supervise, train, and mentor AP & filing staff
· Conduct formal, written annual performance reviews
· Assesses the competencies of staff and identifies strengths and areas for development by creating individual performance plans that set out performance goals
· Encourage and support staff to explore and utilize areas of development as identified in their performance plan
· Ensure personnel administration is in accordance regulations, policy, and acts
· Monitor and prepare timesheets for payroll processing
· Promote regular attendance, balanced lifestyle and high standard of team wellness
*Education and Experience *
* Post-Secondary degree
* Minimum 3 years of management or supervisor experience in accounting, including A/R, A/P, and Fixed Assets
* CPA Accounting designation or in the final phase of obtaining a CPA designation is an asset
* At least 2 years? experience working for a First Nation preferred
*Skills & Qualifications:*
* Knowledgeable in accounting principles and practices
* Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to lead and operate in a multi-disciplinary team environment
* Ability to explain/present ideas and solutions; anticipating potential objections and preparing business case accordingly
* Ability to handle deadlines, multiple daily interactions, and resolve workplace conflicts tactfully
* Experienced in large ERP systems
* Demonstrated proficiency in Excel skills (intermediate to advanced level), Word, and Outlook
* CAFM designation considered an asset
