The City?s Engineering, Parks and Environment Department has an opportunity for a regular full-time Environmental Technician to join our Environment and Park Planning Division working with the Environment team. Reporting to the Section Manager, Environment and Park Planning, this is a dynamic advisory and technical position that focuses on implementing the City?s environmental programs and projects. You will be involved and assist in the development of environmental projects, plans and policies, including input into habitat restoration, promotion of environmental best practices and facilitating community based stewardship initiatives and events. In this role, you will provide technical expertise and advice on environmental matters, including regulatory and other requirements of governments or affiliated agencies. You will also administer City environmental bylaws and policies, review development applications, and contribute to environmental studies. The position involves coordinating environmental monitoring; research, data collection and analysis; contributing to Council reports and presentations; preparing technical terms of reference and reviewing proposals for the hiring of environmental consultants; receiving, investigating and responding to environmental complaints (including spill response and erosion and sediment control measures); providing information to the public on environment and sustainability issues; and, developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with a variety of stakeholders. Work will involve field visits in relation to the work required. You will have completed a related technical diploma or a Bachelor of Science degree with courses in biology, ecology or related subjects, together with some related experience in the environmental management field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Knowledge of federal and provincial regulations, City policies, bylaws and other environmental issues relating to the work to be performed is required, along with a thorough knowledge of analysis and research techniques in environmental science. Excellent interpersonal skills are necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, together with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including formulating recommendations, making effective presentations, and preparing correspondence, technical narrative and statistical reports, tabulations and records. A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office is required, as well as a valid Class 5 BC Drivers? license. Salary:$42.45 - 50.13 per hour(Pay Grade 24 - January 2024 rates) Hours of Work:The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three-week scheduling cycle.
