Job Posting District Principal Indigenous Education The Board of Education acknowledges and respects that the Nicola Similkameen School District operates on the unceded traditional and ancestral territories of the Nle kepmx and Syilx people. We accept our responsibility to provide quality and equitable public education for the success of all learners. Residing on the traditional territories of the Nle kepmx and Syilx people, the Nicola-Similkameen school district encompasses two distinct communities, Merritt and Princeton. The two communities are joined by Highway 5A, which curves through beautiful ranch land and around numerous lakes. Both communities are approximately 2 1/2 hours from Vancouver, with quick freeway access to the Okanagan and Kamloops regions. Position Summary Reporting to the Superintendent of Schools, the successful candidate will provide educational and administrative leadership and assume a wide range of responsibilities aimed at ensuring Indigenous student success in alignment with the Districts Strategic Plan. The position is responsible for implementing the Districts Indigenous Education Councils (IEC) mandate of providing comprehensive and equitable education and support services for Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) students with a focus on improving Indigenous student outcomes. Responsibilities Provide leadership and supervision for the Indigenous education staff in the District and act as the main Indigenous contact person for staff at all levels.Provide leadership to support the actions from the Ministry of Education, to deliver on the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation of Canada Report, the BC Tripartite Education Agreement, and the Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.Drive evidence-based decisions informed by consultation with rights-holders and develop short and long-term plans to support the well-being and academic success of Indigenous students.Liaise and engage with the Indigenous Education Council.Support the execution of the Local Education Agreements (LEAs).Plan Indigenous-based learning opportunities for Indigenous students.Plan and/or facilitate professional Indigenous-based learning opportunities for staff.Collaborate with principals to develop knowledge and supports leading to success for Indigenous learners.Actively participate or cofacilitate initiatives, such as the Equity Scan and participate in the development of action plans to address any disparities.Collecting, managing, collating, writing reports and sharing local and Ministry Indigenous student data.Assist in the work toward creating an anti-racist culture within the district.Work directly with the Senior Leadership Team, including instruction, assessment, and staff employment. Implement assessments to monitor the quality of programs and services provided to Indigenous learners.Administering the annual budget for Indigenous Educations targeted funding in consultation with the Indigenous Education Council. Qualifications, Experience, Attributes: British Columbia Teacher Regulation Branch certification or eligibility.Masters Degree in Education (preferred) or equivalent graduate training.Lived experience as an Indigenous person or extensive experience working with Indigenous communities will be given consideration.Commitment to learning and supporting local Indigenous histories, cultures, protocols, and the contemporary challenges within the education system. ·Proven ability to build and sustain strong, collaborative relationships with Indigenous Nations and communitiesDemonstrated commitment to Indigenous student success and effective leadership skills in planning, implementing and evaluating district-wide initiatives and priorities.A track record of achieving and fostering respectful dialogue and consultation with diverse partner groups, including students, families and rights-holders.Familiarity with the technology used in supporting student learning and experience with differentiated teac
