Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.Job Description The City of Mission is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Fire Inspector/Educator to join our Fire Rescue Service team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape and implement fire prevention programs and educational outreach initiatives, making a significant impact on community safety. As part of this role, you'll be responsible for inspecting new buildings to ensure they meet fire safety standards, as well as engaging with the community to promote fire safety awareness. Key responsibilities include developing and rolling out fire prevention and public education programs, investigating fire incidents to provide comprehensive reports and liaising with the Office of the Fire Commission (as requested), and reviewing construction plans for adherence to fire safety regulations. You'll also provide valuable technical guidance to internal departments, government agencies, and the general public. An important facet of this role is coordinating and supporting fire safety presentations and tours for community and school groups while assisting in training firefighters on effective fire prevention techniques and safety measures.Candidates should possess an extensive knowledge of the federal and provincial legislation pertaining to fire prevention and fire safety and superior knowledge of the methods, procedures and practices used in fire prevention and fire investigation activities. Additionally, familiarity with building construction methods and fire prevention systems accompanied by ability to interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans is crucial, alongside excellent communication skills for delivering impactful presentations.Qualifications To qualify, applicants must have completed a certificate or diploma in fire protection engineering or an equivalent, along with recognized courses in fire inspections, public education and investigations (e.g. IFSAC and/or ProBoard Level 1 Fire Inspector, Fire & Life Safety Educator, Fire Service Instructor, Fire Investigation; along with BC Fire and Building Code courses). At least three years of experience in fire-related inspections or compliance roles is required. A valid Class 5 Driver?s License is necessary, and additional qualifications such as First Aid Level 3 and Fire Prevention Officer certificates are highly desirable.Additional Information The hours for this position are 8:00 AM to 5:45 PM, 4 days per week (1820 hours annually). The monthly wage for this IAFF position is $10,277 plus a comprehensive benefit package.
