School District No. 79 (Cowichan Valley)Accounting Clerk 2Applications are being accepted for the REGULAR, FULL-TIME position of: ACCOUNTING CLERK 2Under the general supervision of the Assistant Secretary Treasurer or Designate, the Accounting Clerk 2 holds a senior role within the Business Servies Department, performing a variety of accounting functions. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and transactions, general ledger account and bank reconciliations as well as providing financial administrative support to schools, staff, and third parties. DUTIES: Relieve the Human Resource and Accounting Coordinator of administrative detail by directing, assigning, and monitoring the accounting team. Assist the Human Resource and Accounting Coordinator with internal school audits and reviews. Assist in supervising and training the accounting team. Provide support to the accounting team including assisting with the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions. Provide backup support and training in the use of school-based accounting software (KEV). Investigate inquiries from suppliers, provincial ministries, auditors and district staff concerning accounts payable and accounts receivable issues and resolves problems. Provide accounting support to school administrators, clerical staff, and other district staff. Research, resolve and report accounting discrepancies concerning invoices, purchase orders, debit notes and other related transaction documents. Prepare schedules and complex reconciliations required for the district?s month end, quarterly and year end activities. Reconcile general ledger account sub ledgers to the general ledger, investigate and resolve discrepancies and prepare correcting journal entries. Prepare and/or review bank reconciliations for various district and school bank accounts. Receive, verify, and accurately apply general ledger codes to accounting data. Draft, review and post manual journal entries. Draft statutory reporting (e.g. charity tax return and SOFI) for manager review. Assists in the preparation of financial statements and audits as required. Operates standard office equipment. Participates in special projects within the Business Services department. May, on occasion, be required to perform other job-related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:Education - the applicant must have completed: Grade 12 Plus, greater than 2 years of post-secondary program completed in Accounting or Business Administration (with the completion of intermediate financial accounting). Experience - the applicant must have: 3.5 years of recent financial accounting experience, in a similar role, in a medium size automated finance department (recent meaning within the last 6 years). Working knowledge of intermediate level Excel, Microsoft Office, and finance office routines.Skills - the applicant must have: Aptitude for, and experience in, computer operations, computerized accounting systems and data input. Knowledge of bookkeeping and intermediate accounting. Ability to interpret related legislation and policies. Excellent critical thinking and financial analysis skills. Other Ability and aptitude to work with detail, precision, speed, and accuracy and work effectively under pressure, high volumes, and tight timelines while paying attention to details in all aspects of work. Demonstrated ability to use knowledge to resolve problems and issues as they arise within their areas of responsibility. Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop methods or procedures as required. Ability to get along well with other staff and managers and use courtesy, tact and discretion in exchanges with the public, vendors and other departments within the district.
