*POSITION SUMMARY*
The Registered Nurse at SKHC will play an integral role in advancing nursing capabilities at our centre. Working within a collaborative environment, this role will lead and support health programs focused on acute, chronic, and preventive care, tailored to meet the unique health needs of our community. Key areas of expertise include wound care, diabetes management, and foot health, addressing some of the community's most essential healthcare needs.
*KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:*
- Deliver holistic and culturally sensitive nursing care that honors the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of clients of all ages.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to implement community health initiatives that promote wellness and support chronic disease management.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to nursing staff, guiding them to practice within the full scope of nursing capabilities.
- Advocate for SKHC clients through partnerships with allied health providers, social services, and community organizations.
*QUALIFICATIONS*
- Education & Licensure:
- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification and current immunizations, including TB screening.
- Community Health Nursing Certification (CCHN(C)) or other relevant specialty certifications are an asset.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in a community health or Indigenous health setting.
- Proven experience working with marginalized communities or Indigenous populations, with a deep understanding of Anishinabek culture, health needs, and cultural practices.
- Specialized training in wound care and diabetes management is highly preferred and considered a strong asset in addressing specific health needs within the community.
- Experience in mental health and addictions, including skills in crisis intervention and support for complex cases, is a strong asset.
- Proven experience in well-baby and early childhood care, including routine assessments, immunizations, and parental support, is considered an asset, as it aligns with SKHC?s family-centered approach to health services.
- Additional Skills & Certifications:
- Health Education & Counseling: Proficiency in client education and chronic disease self-management. Training in motivational interviewing or health coaching is beneficial.
- Trauma-Informed Care: Training in trauma-informed approaches to provide compassionate care for clients with historical or intergenerational trauma.
- Public Health Knowledge: Familiarity with public health principles and skills in preventive care, community health education, and outbreak management.
- Collaborative Practice: Strong communication skills, cultural competence, and proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, ideally with other Indigenous organizations, social workers, and allied health providers.
- Advanced Life Support: Advanced certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) are preferred.
- Health Informatics: Strong skills in electronic health record (EHR) documentation, ensuring quality and confidentiality in client records.
- Program Development: Experience in designing, implementing, or evaluating community health programs or policies to support innovative health solutions.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in Indigenous languages relevant to the community (e.g., Anishinaabemowin) or French is an asset, enhancing communication with clients.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a high level of cultural competence, demonstrating respect for Anishinabek perspectives.
