Vancouver-based Teck Resources has agreed to sell its steelmaking coal business, Elk Valley Resources, in a series of deals. Glencore, a Swiss company will acquire a 77% stake, while Japanese company Nippon Steel Corp. will purchase a 20% stake, and South Korean steelmaker POSCO will have a 3% stake. In total, the value of the deal is close to US$9 billion.
