Job Bank's methodology for identifying green jobs

jb-green-occupations-list

Green jobs contribute to positive environmental outcomes (such as preservation, conservation and restoration). To identify them, Job Bank relies on a list developed by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) through a task-based analysis recognized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

This list contains groups from the National Occupational Classification (NOC), which include different jobs with primary duties and responsibilities that may directly or indirectly help the environment. Not every job in these groups is necessarily green, but they all have the potential to be depending on the specific requirements of the position.

When an employer posts on Job Bank using a job title from one of these groups, they are asked whether the position contributes to positive environmental outcomes. If they state that it does, their job posting will be labelled as a "Green job".
