The City of Winnipeg has recommended four organizations to receive funding from its Downtown Arts Capital Fund – Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Performing Arts Consortium of Winnipeg, Manitoba Opera, and Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre. The funding would go towards two organizations’ renovation projects, a safety and accessibility project, and technology upgrades.

The City of Winnipeg is scouting sites for a new outdoor aquatic park in the St. Boniface neighbourhood, due to the closure of two aging facilities in the area. The Happyland pool closed this year, while the Windsor Park pool is scheduled to close after the 2025 season.
Construction begins this winter on the St. James Civic Centre Expansion in Winnipeg. The $17M project is funded by all three levels of government and will include new meeting rooms, a kitchen space, an expanded viewing area, and parking lot upgrades. It is slated for completion in the fall of 2026.

The construction of a $94M recreation facility in Winnipeg’s Waverly West neighbourhood has been put on hold due to rising construction costs. Plans for the project include three gyms, a running track, and fitness facilities. It was originally scheduled to begin construction in 2022, but has been delayed until at least 2025.

The Balmoral Hotel is spending $900K to upgrade the hotel which is often used as short-term housing for out-of-town residents receiving medical care. The upgrades will include adding a walk-in clinic, drop-in support site, and daycare. Renovation work will continue later into 2024.
