According to a report from the Canadian Tree Nursery Association, more than half of Canada’s tree seedlings are grown in British Columbia. The industry is expected to grow following a sharp increase in wildfire activity across Canada. The association estimates it will take 5.3B seedlings to plant only 15% of Canadian forests burned by wildfire in 2023 and 2024, which would create nearly 31K jobs.

The Government of British Columbia has created a new $5M Tree Fruit Climate Resiliency program to support tree-fruit growers in case of extreme weather. The fund will help cover things like protective covers, heaters, sprinklers and shade protection.
